Despite being born in Vancouver, BC, John has been living in Alberta since 1964. After completing a Bachelor of Science Degree (first class honours in Psychology) from the University of Alberta in 1982, he obtained his law degree from the University of Victoria (BC) in 1986 and articled at a prominent Calgary law firm.
John has a wide-range of experience in several areas of law including representing clients in civil lawsuits involving varieties of claims, as well as acting for sellers and buyers in real estate transactions, preparing probate and administration applications and wills and other estate documents and representing clients involved in corporate-commercial and business transactions. He has appeared and advocated for clients at all levels of court in Alberta.
Currently, John is the chair of the Solo, Small Firm and General Practice section for south Alberta of the Canadian Bar Association (Alberta branch) and has in the past been on the executive, chaired the Insolvency section of the Canadian Bar Association (South Alberta) amongst several other sections of the CBA (Alberta Branch). In addition, he previously chaired the school council at Mid-Sun Junior High and helped form the Mid-Sun Education Enhancement Society which supports activities at school and in the community.
In furthering his legal education and others, John presented a seminar for the Legal Education Society of Alberta and has spoken to the Solo, Small Firm and General Practice section of the CBA (South Alberta) in 2015. In addition, he was a Business Law instructor at SAIT Polytechnic in Calgary and has been a guest lecturer at CDI College in Calgary.
